Looks a bit like like John o' Groats, but I'm not sure if the mountains loom quite so large up there.

Reminds me of a place on the M74 [M6] not sure what it was before that.

About 40 miles south of Glasgow.It was surrounded by hills with little roads off to the left heading North.

Most probably North of the border as it looks like slate on the roof and not tiles.

So I am going to say Evanfoot just to get the ball rolling.

A clue, it is called the Station Hotel, on closer scrutiny the picture reveals why.
