I found out when I was quite young that any form of liquorice gave me the runs. I havn't had any licuorice for a good 40 years since to find out if it is still the case.

During my career in Orthopaedic Nursing, many years back now, Pontefract Cakes were recommended !!!

Don't know how many were necessary before a result but the young lads on traction certainly preferred this to 'other' options!!!

Crosstrainer2 - you did mean dread and not bread (b and d). Yes I think you meant dread...

I like liquorice in any form,be it Pontefract cakes or Bassets Allsorts. As children we were given rock hard sticks of liquorice as a "treat"(my brother & sister hated the stuff so I got triple amounts)I also prefer Fishermans Friends/Victory V's to any chocolate/sugary sweet, but I've been called weird for so many things it matters not.

When we were kids a Liquorice root would last all day when you were a bit short of funds for sweets. We used to buy them from the local Chemists and would get two for a penny (old money). They're a bit more expensive now 20p each Liquorice root

I can eat a bag of Pontefract cakes at one go with no ill effects. Couple of pints of the local Real Ale have a completely different effect, however!
