My brother State side has just got himself a new motor. He then posed this question to me, how come the majority of cars sold in America are automatics, while in Europe the majority are manual?

Anybody got any thoughts on the subject?

Covergirl same reason as the bombs that will wipe out civilisation always have red LEDs for the countdown. Can you imagine a gangster movie without the tyre squeal?

Over the years I have tried many of the offerings and both have their good points and their bad points. On ice for example I prefer manual but that is just me. I even remember my lovely Citroen CX Prestiges one of which was C-Matic and the other fully automatic. The C-Matic could be classed as either the best of or the worst of both worlds depending on your viewpoint. Having a gear change and no clutch was strange for a while but you soon got used to it. On the fully automatic I loved the traffic crawler which allowed you to to creep along with the traffic without too much effort.

I'm presently using a manual shift in the UK but the Saab change is so sweet I don't miss the automatic.

I passed my test in 1993 on an auto, said then 3 yrs and i will take again in manuel, never did. To be honest driving an auto is just like driving a bumper car just got a brake on the auto, now my left arm is completly dead due to a stroke so never goin drive a manual.
