I am trying to sell ebooks on my website. The ebooks consist of questions and answers. People pay to download the answers. However, I have found that if I type the question into the google search it comes up with the PDF file that is in the root folder of my website, and people can just open it without paying anything. Why do you think this is?

Thanks. Yes, I am using Kindle.
I have not tried it on someone else's computer. I will try that.
I have now found the Robots section in my website builder and have disallowed the search engine spiders from indexing the pages which have the 'download now' button on them. But the PDF files are still coming up on my computer in google search.

It might be better to send people a link when they pay for the answers, rather than linking to the files from a button.
Create a new directory in the root, and put the PDF files into it. Set up an auto-mailer that sends a link to the files once payment is received.
