What's wrong with tables?

I have just had my annual visit from the Yell salesman and he produced a report on my web site. Most of the criticsms I could understand and we have rectified. One which I do not understand was the comment that the web site contains tables. Whilst I understand the argument against frames, what is wrong with tables?

Tables should only really be used to contain data. Like Forum Member said, it can cause issues for non-screen devices.
HTML should only be used to dump out and display data. CSS should then be applied to style it into the format you want.
