In simple terms please?

I have a blogspot page and backup the template occasionally but I really ought to backup the whole site.

What do I need and how do I do it? I have Googled this but haven't been able to find an idiot proof guide!

PS Posted this on the 'Help Forum' and got no response. Perhaps it should have been placed here.
