Frames and external sites

I know that Frames are not popular or advised for real sites, but I would like to know if there is any way to make links to external sites (a href="click here......" target="mainpart") go into the specified frame. ('mainpart' in this example). For example, if I have two frames - one with a row of hyperlinks to external sites, the other to be the target for those sites - is there any way to do that, as they are currently opening in their own window.
