hi my daughter has a hp pavilion g6 laptop which runs window 7,over the last few days the screen has started to flicker on and off but the laptop is not shutting down.i have tried altering the screen position but this has made no difference we have norton 360 installed and she has carried out a full system scan to eliminate any signs of virus.when she first switches on all is ok but after about 10 mins it starts playing up sometimes the screen can be off for about 30 secs other times 2-3 seconds.any ideas .many thanks

You need to determine if this is a laptop screen problem or a graphics card problem and the easiest way to do this is to connect an external LCD monitor to the VGA port on the laptop. Click here for how to do it if you still get the problem with the external monitor going on and off you have a graphics card problem. If it is stable then you have a laptop screen problem.

could be the inverter board failing and causing the cftubes to go out - no light = no screen (you may see the image very faintly on the screen using a bright torch if this is the case.
