Old router as ethernet switch

I was going to buy an ethernet switch so that I could connect both my TV and Youview box to a Powerline plug. However, I have a spare five way router and I wondered whether a router can be used as a LAN switch. Is this possible? If not, I will just buy a proper switching unit.

Yes, I've done this for my network. Guide for a Netgear is here, - if you have a different router, the login page will probably be different (it's often printed on a label on the base).
