Hi, my modem router is on the way out and a friend has let me one to try but it's for use with BT and they are not my ISP. Is there a way of changing the settings or is it a lost cause, thanks.

It's a DGN834N, I've been trying for a while now and got in touch with my ISP and the advisor there reckoned it wouldn't recognise the password because it was a BT dedicated router.

Try the following:- Step 1

Log in to the router setup page at click here (username: admin password: password)

Step 2

On the left menu, click on ADSL settings

Step 3

Enter the following information you should have been given to you by your ISP:

  • Multiplexing =
  • VPI =
  • VCI =

    Click Apply

Step 4

On the left menu, click on Basic Settings

Step 5

Enter the following information:

  • Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login: Yes

    • Login: Enter your username. Given to you by your ISP or created by you?
    • Password: Enter your password.

    • IP Address: Choose Get Dynamically from ISP.

    • Domain Name Servers: Choose Obtain Automatically from ISP.

    Click Apply

Hopefully that will work?
