intermittent pop ups with chrome browser- new one to me

I have noticed recently that I will click on a page and instead of going to that link a window opens for an ad. I have adblocker etc but to no avail. he sites can be, your pc needs a check, dating and so on. One of them is a money making site and pops up most frequently

help, its xp pro os.

i tried malaware and it found 81 items but how do i know they are safe to delete?

See if it will quarantine them. If not you will probably have to take a chance and remove them.

Take it you have been using MSE as an anti virus. just a guess.

an update, the easiest way to cure this problem was to uninstall and re-install chrome, no problems since.
