New Porno Scam

With the news in this-morning’s Daily Mail that a 'Net Porn Block On Every Home' was to be instituted, I was happily using my computer when suddenly the screen was filled with a document headed Cheshire Police, alleging that because I had been viewing illegal pornography my computer was locked until I paid a fine of an amount I can't now remember. It was something like £100. I tried unsuccessfully to delete the page and subsequently turned my machine off, now the machine won't boot and there is nothing but a black screen. Is there a solution and has anyone else experienced the same problem?

This is a very well known virus/scam. Iam sure someone here will be able to post a link to the removal process, ignore it, nothing to with the police or porno.

You could try searching the forums, seen it on here quite a few times.

This is a good guide, click here, but I wouldn't use their green download link for their removal software simply because I haven't used it before. I would use Malwarebytes and Superanitspyware instead.

Abel, most of the time, booting into Safe Mode and then running System Restore cures this malware problem. If that returns your PC to normal, then as a final measure, I'd recommend scanning with the Free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to mop-up any (inactive) malware files that may remain.

If you're not familiar with Safe Mode and/or System Restore then reply with your version of Windows.

Bumpkin, I have searched under Cheshire Police but can find nothing that remotely matches my problem. rdave13 and Secret-Squirrel, I'd love to try either of your suggestions but as mentioned the machine doesn't boot up when turned on but simply displays a black screen. Pressing eiher F5 or F8 when starting the machine has absolutely no effect at all.

Try tapping the F8 (usually) or F5 keys instead of just pressing.

"Cheshire Police Virus" shows some results but you need to access the pc before you can do much.
