Remove a hard drive from one laptop and install into another?

I have an old packard bell easynote r1000 which runs on Windows XP, and an Acer aspire 5715Z which runs Vista. Is it possible to remove the hard drive from the packard bell and install it into the acer, as an additional hard drive, not a replacement? I've tried to find out if they are compatible hard drives, and if the acer even has space for another hard drive (it already has a partition) but so far haven't found any information. I'm no expert at this so I might be way off by even asking. Thanks.

Generally speaking, there isn't room in a notebook/laptop to install another hard drive. If you want to use a spare drive on a laptop, buy yourself a 2.5" hard drive enclosure, install the spare hard drive in there and attach it via the supplied USB cable to the laptop. It is possible to buy enclosures that can take both or either IDE and SATA connection drives.

Your Acer will not have space for a 2nd hard drive to be fitted. The cheapest option would be to purchase an external 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure such as one in this list - no need to spend a lot of money - the £4.99 one would suffice.enter link description here
