Laptop keeps on displaying blank screen

Hi Folks

Every time I turn my laptop on, after booting up, it displays a blank black screen with a white arrow in the middle. Nothing else happens after that.

I have tried restarting and taking out the battery etc, but the problem is still there.

Could someone be kind enough to advice what I need to do?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Looks as though it's stalling in the middle of the boot. can you start it in safe mode? From F8, you could also try last known good configuration.

Hi Folks

Thanks for your reply onthlimit1.

I have tried what you suggested but the same thing still keeps on happening - black screen with a white arrow in the middle !

What else could I try in order to rectify the problem?

What operating system? When you tap F8 during boot, do you then get the different options screen up?

Just to check, can you hook laptop up to an external monitor? If laptop continues to boot it is a screen or GFX chip issue.
