I downloaded open office from this url https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=download%20open%20office&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&channel=np&source=hp Hidden in it was a toolbar called Snap do. I did not tick any box to allow this so how can this be? I have now deleted the tool bar and the download of open office.

That's a search page which link did you use?

Hit same problem earlier in week when downloading a program to backup emails via a Cnet link

it downloaded zonealarm search bar, firewall and hijacked my start page, locked me out of the internet as ZA firewall and my own firewall clashed. I had unticked some other stuff that was also packaged with it but didn't see the ZA stuff to untick - B...dy annoying.

I will avoid cnet downloads in future

Scammers sometimes use silent installers to install adware and it doesn't matter if you accept or decline the "offers". The rogue installer simply downloads files in the background without your permission and knowledge. Learn more:

I think you should also scan your computer with AdwCleaner.

When downloading software always choose the "custom" option rather than the "express" option as this usually gives you the option of unticking the various other "goodies" they think you may like or choose "decline all".

I always try the Ninite site first as this has an installer that just installs the product and nothing else, you can download Open Office from there.

Use this http://www.libreoffice.org/ more or less looks & feels the same as Open office and comes from the same family, no ads or any other funny business. If you do decide to install the above, you will need to uninstall Open office first

The best place to download Open Office is direct from the Open Office website. You can then also be sure of getting the latest version.
