drives are not recognized sometimes

I have a problem with drives not being recognized intermittently. The weird thing is it happens to my secondary SATA hard drive and the drives on my 3." bay card reader as well as occasionally external usb drives. What could be going wrong that links all these types of drive? Basically apart from c:\ (thankfully), if it has a letter, it can disappear sometimes. Thanks

Possible driver problem, if you know what make and model of motherboard you have then you should be able to download the necessary drivers from the manufacturers website.
