When I started my PC yesteday I got the following Checking file system on C The type of file system is NTFS. One of your discs needs to be checked for consistency you may cancel the disc check but it is strongly recommended that you continue. Does anyone know what this check is and what it does.

Errors abound with windows sometimes, even small ones. Over time, unexpected shutdowns, crashes, ETC. causes system errors on the disk. Windows is doing a quick chkdisk.

But if it happens on every boot then that might indicate something more serious.
