Hi,I have set up a home network and i'm getting dreadfully slow file transfer rates. My set up is a: Toshiba Laptop running Win7 32bit wireless connection-sky wireless modem-belkin 1gb homeplugs-zyxel 320 NAS-WD Elements 1TB External Desktop Hard Drive USB 2.0 . Can anyone tell me what sort of transfer rate i should expect to be getting over this type of network set up and how to improve the speed if possible? Thank you.

Have you tried the same exercise using an ethernet connection - wireless connections can cause a very slow file transfer rate.

If this doesn't improve you could try disabling the Remote Differential Compression which is used to compute the difference between sizes of files over a networks and moves them with as little bandwidth as possible. This article explains how.
