Ide Hard drive problems with win xp

I'm currently trying to upgrade my desktop system, running xp sp3, I've installed a new bigger Western Digital ide drive (320gb), replacing a 40gb c drive, I've ghosted the whole drive include boot settings from the c drive to the new drive, I'd previously partioned the new drive (using xp management), connected & jumpered the drives to reflect that the new drive is the master, and the original the slave, in bios I've confirmed this is the case, the system boots up and comes up with the error loading operating system, when verifying the dmi pool data, what am I doing wrong please ?, I don't have the original os boot cd. I Suspect Ghost (vers 15), which seemed to ghost ok, but does have +com issues (won't do normal back ups), is too blame, or am I missing anything ?. If ghost is to blame is True image really any better ?. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I would leave the original as it is and just connect the new drive as a slave.

You could move the My documents folder, data etc. and the page file to the new drive.
