Mint 14-How to access spare hard drive

Installed a new hard drive (sdb1) in system, partitioned ext3 file system. Can mount drive from home folder but 'File/Create Folder' & 'File/Create Document' greyed out. If I 'Open as Adminstrator' through /media/MyName those two operations are accessible so I'm assuming I need to change permissions somewhere. How please?

's okay - sorted.

Opened as Administrator, Properties changed group to MyName, altered permissions and Exit. All files and folders now available.
