I am told that it is possible to put a single click shut down icon on the Window 8 start screen but I have not found out how to do it. Any suggestions? Peter

Thanks for link, I followed advise however when I press shutdown icon which I have created the black command windows pops up briefly but the pc does not shut down. The appearance of the command window is so brief that I cannot read words. Any thoughts on what I have done wrong? Peter

In the shortcut box did you leave spaces between shutdown and /s and between /s and /t and between /t and 0? also did you make sure that you used 0 (zero) and not O or o?

Not sure if this is any good to you.

You can download and use Classic Shell which gives you the start menu all programs and shut down buttons included.

Classic Shell

If you are quite happy using W/8 as it is ignore Classic shell.
