Windows 7 "network and sharing centre" settings help!

Hi folks. On my windows 7 computer in "network and sharing center" my internet connection is by default set to public network.My computer isn't part of a network.I am the only user in my home and don't need to share any files with any other computer or "network" In windows firewall it shows as being connected to "public networks" and not connected to "home or work(private)networks. As I am the only computer connected to my internet connection I was wondering if it would be better to connected to home or work(private)or even better to not be connected to any "network" at all? I was wondering if there was any security benefits too?Thanks.
