Avast stopping 3G dongle from working

Hi, my neighbor has been running a 3 g dongle for 3 years now with Avast free during this time with no problems. Last week he renewed the 3G dongle and since then he couldn't connect, We contactd 3G and they advised turning the Avast off for testing the dongle, it worked instantly but when starting Avast again it stopped. They said it was a problem with Avast and that he should uninstal it stating that Microsoft has its own antivirus programme. We have done this and it works OK, but the fact that he is running without a antivirus programme is worrying. What do suggest, I believe that Microsoft has a antivirus programme , do you think this is OK or should he try AVG or similar, he doesn't run any ' dodgy sites '. If the Microsoft Essintial Security is OK how does he get it? Any help would be appreciated

Maybe check in Avast before you delete it to see why it is not letting it run and rectify it so that it does.

If deciding to remove Avast he will need to download the Avast removal tool from the internet.
