HD Bravia TV cannot see/play HD network videos

HD (1920x1080) TV sees and plays all SD mpg (720x576) stored on a Lacie network drive. Now working in HD (1920x1080) and find that the TV does not even see the mpg files, let alone play them. If I convert the HD files to SD they are then visible again. It seems odd that a HD TV cannot see and play HD videos. Why is this? Does anyone have a solution?

Do you perhaps need to change the TV's HD settings to match those of the media you're playing?

As far as I know the TV is set up properly for HD. The same HD files copied to a data DVD will play correctly via a Blue-Ray player. What I do not understand is why the TV does not even show the file names, which I would expect even if the TV couldn't play the videos correctly.
