Do I need Java on my [Windows 7] desktop?

Hi. Please say if I really need Java on my PC. I ask because of recent concerns surrounding security vulnerabilities; and because my new [budget] laptop - also running Windows 7 - seems to run perfectly well without it. Thanks.

You can always install Java RE when needeed. Only time I've been asked to install Java was for Nvidia's auto card detection. Didn't bother and have been running without Java for a while.

Haven't had java on either my W7 laptop or W7 desktop for months. No problems whatsoever.
