Have old compaq presario SR 1000, was full of unwanted data and running slow, so i restored to the factory settings thinking that it would be like it was when i first got it, however hard drive is still full, also had wireless mouse & braodband dongle but these will not work now, have tried restoring again to see if these would work but still no joy. What would be the best way to clear the hard drive and to get wireless mouse and dongle working. Cheers.

If you did a reinstall, there is probably a windows.old file on the C drive which contains all the old operating system and files. If you have this file, [see here ]1

why dont you transfer the old stuff to an external drive then wipe the drive on your pc then you should have some free space

Hi Bremner, reloaded drivers from disc, but still not working, i think when i done the factory restore there must still be components still on the hard drive causing conflicts. Cheers.

Hi Finerty, have saved all the stuff i wanted to external hard drive, done this before i done the factory restore, how do i go about wiping the the hard drive. Cheers

After doing the resort, some program icons that did not come with the pc but were installed by me after, are still in the all program area of pc, but when you click on them they dont work.

If i could clear the c drive of everything then do a retore from the d drive would this free up space and remove old programs that did not come with the pc? Cheers
