On my family (second) computer I cannot open some pages within a site eg My Posts in PCA and others elsewhere but there is no problem with other machines - this one for example. Clearly, it has something to do with the machine (runs XP). the machine I am writing this on has W 7. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox (19.02) & updated plug-ins, all to no effect. Help!!

I have shut down the PC T firewall and started the windows one. Everything works perfectly with this. Is the Windows one good enough? Just remember the best is the enemy of the good (Voltaire).

Windows firewall does the job, some people like it some don't.
Personally I don't use PCTool products, since having a problem some years ago. There are a number of well recommended 'free anti' products out there, that do the jobs intended.

If I remember rightly the XP firwall only monitored incoming traffic and not outgoing. This was changed to monitor both ways in Vista and later.
I guess that there are still plenty of people using it quite successfully.
