Paid or Freeware software to convrt videos for a friends ipad please

Hello and good evening to you. A friend of min has got an ipad, and she's also got a laptop. She has videos on her laptop and she would like to be able to play them in full on her ipad 2. How can she do this please? She doesnt mind if its paid software, most of the videos are AVI format, and I think a few or flv files and some windows media player files, but she wants to be albe to FULLY CONVERT ANY file to play on her ipad. please advice, many thanks

What format are the videos?

You can transfer them with photos Apple support or treat them as films and transfer them through iTunes having loaded them into iTunes as a film. You can also drag and drop. Bit more iPad forum

Handbrake has a good reputation for video transcoding, I believe.
