Many new tabs in firefox

When I click on an email address in firefox I am bombarded with dozens of new tabs which can only be stopped by shutting down and restarting.
How can I make the action do what it is supposed to do i.e. allow me to send an email?

Sounds like you have something nasty

Scan for Virus and malware

What protection do you have?

Fruit Bat /\0/\ Sorry about delay in response. I missed notification. Scans show nothing. I use MS Essentials & MS firewall. Nothing else is acting peculiar.

I still think you need more protection yhan just MSE download update and run Malwarebytes

Done that - problem solved! Malwarebytes found three threats which when removed allowed email connections from Firefox.
