Transferring tracks from a CD to computer

I have Windows XP on my computer and seem to be having difficult copying some tracks from my CDs on the computer, ready to use in a Windows Movie Maker project. I have been online and followed instructions given, but when I attempt to "copy" all I get is the name of the file (track), no content. I must be doing something wrong so would appreciate any help or advice given.
Many thanks Pinklady1967

Assuming that these are music tracks then you need to rip them to your pc first. WinXP Tutor

I tried the ripping process last night and it worked brilliantly - many thanks.
