Epson Stylus Office BX525WD Problem

I have tried using the scan facility on the above all in one for the first time, It tells me there is a communication error . Make sure the computer is connected then try again. It then tells me the same thing again and again. Can anyone help please

Have you installed the Epson Scan software.

PC OS? The scan to pc is only for Vista, W7, W8 as far as I am aware.
