How to alter page sizes

Why is it whenever I click onto any site or google on any of my few shortcuts they pages always appear in minimised size and I have make them bigger surely it should be the other way round ie when I click on a site it should appear in normal siz and I would minimise it if required

Basically it seems --drag the page to full size and then press control and at same time close page by the X top right.
