Internet Explorer 10 compatibility settings

I use IE 10 under Windows 8.
I've been having problems clicking through the pages of a website that I use quite frequently. Every time I click to move on to another page, I get a report that says:-
"This page can't be displayed
•Make sure the web address https://my.1and1.co.uk is correct.
•Look for the page with your search engine.
•Refresh the page in a few minutes.
•Make sure TLS and SSL protocols are enabled. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Settings > Security"
If I then click my back button and click on the page again, it displays normally.
I have checked my TLS and SSL settings - they are set to TLS 1.0 and SSL 3.0.
I reported this problem to the website owners and they have told me that their site isn't "particularly compatible" with IE 10. They suggest that I should use IE7,8 or 9.
They also added the following: "We can suggest that you can also update the compatibility settings on the browser if you are using a higher version."
I don't really understand this last suggestion. How should I update the compatibility settings of IE10 in order to avoid this problem?
All advice gratefully received, please.

Thanks northumbria61. There may not have been much to go on, but there was one valuable nugget about clicking the "broken" symbol at the end of the address bar (although it's a page shape, not a circle!).
I shall try that.
Many thanks again
