Windows 8 Tablets

Anybody with hands in experience of the newer crop of Windows 8 tablets (10 inch)?

I've tried the iPad and didn't go much on it, Android, even in its latest incarnation is still primarily a phone o/s so I'm wondering whether the tried and tested Windows might give better satisfaction.

Reviews are mixed so what I need are personal experiences, if any.

As far as I know, all the Windows Tablets on the Market are Android based, e.g. Windows RT.

These will not run standard Windows Software.

For this we will have to wait for the M$ Surface Pro. I have put aside £800.00 but hope it will be less. However, I will not buy it unless it is able to handle Outlook with any degree of fluency

" I note that RT will not install Chrome. How about other browsers – Opera, Safari, FF?"

As you're probably already aware, virtually all regular desktop applications can't be installed in the RT version.

I've checked the Windows 8 App Store and currently there are no apps available for the browsers you mention.

So at present, it looks like you'll have a choice of just one web browser.

Windows RT is not Android.

Thanks all.

Not impressed with what I've read about RT so I think I will be looking at full Win 8 tablets.

As Woolwell says, RT is not Android.

However, there are several tablets already on the market running Windows 8, though so far none I'm very impressed with!

morddwyd - I've just bought an Asus Vivobook S200 with 11.6" touchscreen. Although not a tablet and is a notebook it is still fairly light 1.4 kg (heavier than a tablet of course) but may be suitable for you. Snag is opened out with screen and keyboard it is much larger than a tablet. I still use my iPad.

morddwyd: Windows RT is not Windows 8 either, it just looks like Windows 8.

I'm not convinced by the presence of 40,000 Apps in Android, either. You could probably get rid of 35,000 of them, still be able to do everything you can possibly imagine and still have a choice of App for each Task.
