NOW i'VE had fraudulent transaction on a debit card.(sorted) the malware accused me of being on a pornography site and froze my pc completely.A technician came to sort it and he did, with some trouble.
Alarmingly my firewall was frozen and cannot be turned on, its a 2005 pc with a lot of valuable info on. he said it would be costly to strip everything off to remove the freez on my firewall.
should i try to buy anew windows xp pc, exactly like my old one , so i can continue with all my programmes. i also use an apple mac 13" laptop, which is super but has no programmes on it.
any idea for a very non pc user, please . simple solutions have a chance with me.

IMHO, first thing to do is buy an external usb hard drive and copy/move all your personal My Documents data files and folders to it. You will also need to copy your emails so tell us which mail client you are using (Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail or another)
What anti-virus and security programs do you have installed?
Which firewall are you refering to? is it Windows firewall or do you have a security program (AVG, Zone Alarm, Avast etc) that has it's own firewall)
If you have the XP cd/dvd you could run sfc /scannow from Start | Run which would check your system files (it prompts you to insert XP cd when/if it needs it)
Do you have the XP cd/dvd and the product key? and the cd/dvd's and the product keys for the extra programs you have installed? you can format (wipe clean) the hard drive and reinstall everything.
What make and model is your XP pc? you may be able to reset it to factory fresh from the manufacturers hidden restore partition - note you would have to reinstall all your extra programs.
If you bought a new pc I doubt you would be able to get one with XP on. Windows 7 can run almost all extra programs that XP does. You would be able to plug your external hard drive with your personal My Docs files on it into a new pc and use them as normal once you had installed your extra programs on W7.
Personally my thoughts are that as your pc is getting near/has reached end of life, buy an external hard drive and a new Windows 7 pc. Also do not give away your old pc's harddrive when you dispose of old pc. Either destroy it or keep it and wipe it clean and use it as an extra drive for storage.
Others will hopefully post with more advice.

FRUIT BAT, MY FIREWALL IS JUST THE WINDOWS FIREWALL. I HAVE SOME KIND OF MALWARE DEFENSE INSTALLED,BY TECHNICIAN, HE SAID I DIDN'T NEED A FIREWALL BECAUSE YAHOO( I S P) HAVE A VERY GOOD FIREWALL . I DON'T KNOW WHAT RISTING IS I PROBABLY CAN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE HTE PC IS FROZEN. IS IT YOUR OPINION THAT I SHOULD PUT ON A FIREWALL NO MATTER WHAT MY TECHNICIAN SAYS. THE ORIGINAL MALWARE COULD HAVE RUINED THE CHANCES OF LOADING A FIREWALL,IF I COLD GET IT ON AGAIN. SORRY.I AM SO FED UP WITH IT.ITS NOTTHAT CAN'T BUY A NEW PC, BUT MY PROGRAMMES AND MY PHOTOS, WHICH ARE PART OFMY WORK, ARE ON THIS BIG OLDMACHINE. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR CONCERN.

Is this someone local that you know who fixes computers or did you get it from the Internet.
It can be removed by downloading the free Kaspersky scan on to a CD or Flash drive and then running it on your computer.
No doubt someone will be able to advise you how to do it.
