Ditto, following rdave's comments etc in another thread, I also have uninstalled it. I certainly haven't noticed anything different in browsing Web since then, so now think Java unnecessary for me.

Chronus that critical update just confirms I did the right thing.

The only sites that may require it are webcam ones. Came across one today ( Dartford Town Centre)

Thought I would give it a look as I am nearby, but needed Java Runtime. So gave it a miss.
