Volume icon control a recording device?

I have a Sound Blaster Z, running Win 7 64bit, using the Dolby Digital Live feature which is great, but it seem the system volume is now dictated by the level of the recording device "what u hear". So now neither the useful volume dial on my keyboard or the volume icon in the taskbar have any effect. To change volume I must enter recording devices and do it there.
Is there anyway to reassign things to sort this out?
Thanks

I'll move this up to the top for you and see if any one else has an answer but I think that is how the card works and there is nothing that you can change.

Thanks. Yeah I wondered if there was a way or reassigning the volume controls or something, even with a third party app of some sort perhaps?
