How would I go about putting a shortcut onto the task bar at the bottom of Desktop?

On W7 just drag it to the taskbar, it will be pinned, to unpin it - rightclick on it and choose unpin.

Make sure you unlock the taskbar first.

Can you right click it in all programs a click on add to Taskbar.
