My Brother DCP-350C printer-scanner would sometimes switch on my itself. So I unplugged the power supply.
Now when I put the plug back in I got the following message on the display (I didn't even have to press the on button. A red light also flashes on the 'Photo Capture' button.
'Unable to Print 50'
I've already checked to see if there is any jammed paper, but there is none. The printer wont even switch of when I press the off button. I have to disconnect the power supply.

Have you tried going to the control panel in windows and clearing all print jobs for your printer?
Perhaps the printer is trying to print 50 copies of something and the printer cannot cope with tthis many copies.

It would appear that the paper jam has unseated the encoder strip. See http://www.fixya.com/support/t211210-brother_mfc845cw
