require a new cd/dvd rw

Any advice please? I need to replace my internal cd/dvd rw. the present one is a NEC Scsi which has served me well for 8 years. my motherboard has two Sata slots which are in use. Am I correct in thinking that if neccessary, I can install a Sata Card and then install a Sata internal drive,this being the better way. Most important of all, I want a silver front. any recommendations please

Yes I would think that would be the way to go but of course you could use an external DVD/CD RW as an alternative.

Just to be sure what motherboard have you or what is your make/model of PC to make sure you get the correct type for your mobo.

I have answered on your other thread,always best to check before buying as it is easy to get the wrong thing particularly with older components. Take the card back to Maplins and swap it for a PCI card, I doubt you will have any problems.

You might need to install drivers dependent on what operating system you are using.

All went well eventually. I ended up using a Bi-Directional IDE to SATA Adapter as my board did not have a third SATA slot or a PCIe slot, I also found it difficult to purchase in the area a PCI/ SATA Card, the DVD/WR is a Samsung 24X drive whish is going quite well. so...thanks again.

Chronos the 2nd. thank you for responding. The motherboard is Asrock P4i65g. This morning whilst I was near Maplins (seldom there), I went in and asked the same question as I have here. I came away with a Samsung DVD writer and a PCIe SATA II 300 2-Channel card. But I have just found out from the motherboard handbook that it does not have a PCIe slot, but a AMR1 slot. So I have just opened anothe thread about this, but what do you think? Thanks.
