Acer laptop DVD drive

I have a acer 5735z Laptop and the DVD drive has gone tats up It is a OPTIARC 7580 Reads and writes just about everything ,sata or ata i dont know if there is a difference Thing is what do i need to replace with . Are they all pretty much the same thanks

While in theory any laptop SATA DVD drive should work, the issue can be cosmetic appearance, and whether Acer did anything to it to make it fit the appearance (colour, shape etc.) of the laptop. You may want to look at something like this.

A Lot are only held in by one screw, but some you have to strip the Laptop to change them. How old the Laptop as it may be a IDE drive. you will find out by removing it. Or why not just use a External Like I do on my Netbook

Be aware there are "thin" and "ultra thin" drives .
I got caught out with this in my Acer 5738 last year.
The drive was easy to remove, just the one screw as suggested.
Yours would appear to be in the same model range.

rdave13: no problem :-) woodchip: it's a SATA drive. morddwyd: that's why I pointed him at a drive specifically for his machine... :-)
