System Restore does not work.

System Restore goes through the motions but even after selecting different restore points it still is unable to change to an earlier date. System is XP home.

Try running it in safe mode. Sounds as if you have malware.

Thank you for your response. In Safe Mode it worked. There was no indication though of any malware anywhere - protective measures are working and after scanning completed no invasive malware reported.

Good. Nevertheless I would run a full scan with the free version of Malwarebytes, after updating, as a precaution. Link.

Some security programs Like Norton interfere with system restore at times and like rdave13 says it normally works in safe mode.

If there is any problems Malwarebytes should find them.

Just wondering why you thought it necessary to do a system restore.

Were you having problems with the last lot of Windows Updates.
