Vista - Windows Update Caused Crash

Anyone else had a problem in the last few days? Chap gave me his PC to look at. On boot, just the windows scrolling bar. Used a Vista disc to repair. Then booted to Windows, said installing updates stage 3 of 3 then crashed. Repeated, same again. Used the disc to access System Restore, and all now fine.
Just wondering if it was a one off and unlikely to happen again, or whether there is a dodgy update which I need to hide.

Install them 1 at a time and see if they all install. You may find one that will not install just click on it and tick do not show this update again.
Maybe switch automatic update off and install them manually 2nd Tuesday of every month. That way you can choose which downloads to install and what to leave.
Computer will also run that bit faster as it is not looking for updates all of the time.
