Seagate Expansion 2TB Desktop 3.0

Is this item the same as a USB external hard drive which can be used to do computer back ups on, eg by using Avanquest software?

Yes its a USB3 external hard drive

if you do not have USB it will connect to a USB 2 port biut will of course be slower.

Just to clarify what Fruit Bat /\0/\ said: it's a USB 3.0 drive, but if you connect it to a USB 2.0 port, it will only run at USB 2.0 speed, not the much faster speed of USB 3.0.
