xp system restore won't restore

System problems on an xp system mean I want to restore to an earlier date but system restore will not work. I've tried it in safe mode and that doesn't seem to work either (though it takes a lot longer). Any tips?

Thanks

Maybe forget switching it off. Can't remember if that deletes all of your dates or not.

Wait till someone can confirm.

I've been trying to sort this out for a matter of weeks now... it started when Office would not open. I tried to reinstall the software but got an error message saying 'the patch package could not be opened'. However the CD seems to work OK as I have since installed it onto a different computer. I am now trying to roll back the XP system in the hope that I can get the software working again. Sadly, Microsoft does not have much interest in supporting XP and Office 2003!

You used to be able to do a repair in add remove for office, it is that long since I used XP that I don't want to give you the wrong information.

Not sure if you clicked on it in add remove and it gave you the choice of a repair or you had to choose delete then it gave you the choice.

maybe someone can give you the correct information.

The only way to fix restore is to switch it off and back on again but unfortunately removes all restore points anyway.

it might also take an sfc /scannow to repair XP and restore.

Office can be repaired in - Add Remove - Click on Office an select repair.
