Messenger plus is it ok now

Noticed that my Grandson had messenger plus looking for an update on his new Laptop.

I know years ago the trouble that it used to cause and was a no no for most computers.

Is it safe to use now.

I asked if he had installed it and he said no it came with Windows Messenger that was already on the Laptop.

Anyone use it now and is it safe to update it.

I don't think that there is a problem with Windows Live Messenger but it is being phased out and will probably disappear in early 2013 to be replaced by Skype.

Messenger Plus was an add on for MSN messenger and caused a lot of problems and had to be deleted.

It must be part of Windows messenger now so just wondered if it was ok now.

It just says it needs updating and not sure whether to go ahead or not.It does mention skype on it as well so maybe safe to update it.

It is still an add-on. I wouldn't bother and instead migrate to skype early.

Ok thanks for the information will leave it as it is and will see if he will download skype instead.
