DVD Drive Dell Studio 1537

The drive in my Dell Studio 1537 will not accept discs. As I insert a disk it makes a rattling sound for a few seconds and spits out the disk. Any suggestions please?

Are you sure there isn't already a disk stuck inside the drive? They sometimes get wedged up at the top out of sight and you may think the drive is empty when it's not.

Yes I am sure there is no disk in there. Worth checking though.

I suggest removing the Optical Drive and inspecting it Dell Service Manual for foreign objects. The manual shows you how to remove it. Also pictures on insidemylaptop.com

Thank you, I will do that although I dont think there is a foreign object inside as the lap top is rarely used and is always in the case. The noise sounds like a small gear wheel not meshing?
