Go to Control Panel | Add & Remove Programs | and look at the Entry for 'Windows Internet Explorer' it will tell you if it is 8 or 9.

If you are using XP then you cannot run IE9 as it is not supported.

Try add remove. Turn Windows features off or on and wait for it to load.

Scroll down to IE9 and untick it and wait for it to finish.it should then go back to IE8 if you had that previously.

Now do not do that unless you have another browser installed that you can use in case it removes I/E completely.

I think it also works in reverse if you want to put it back on.

If I remember correctly IE9 will be in your Windows Update list. Go to Windows Update in control panel and select view update history. Find IE 9 and uninstall then reboot.
