USB Stopped working

packard bell Laptop all the usb ports have stopped working windows xp I have removed them I device manager and let window reinstall them with know look

USB equip not recognised Try switching the computer off and at the wall. Then hold the start switch in for 30 seconds or more, and then re boot.

Refresh USB Ports Use Drive clean up to remove USB device drive info from the registry http://www.uwe-sieber.de/files/drivecleanup.zip or In device manager Uninstall EVERYTHING under the heading USB, reboot the PC let XP find and install new hardware. Your equipment should now be recognised.

Hi Fruit bat thanks tried that with no look . when I plug any usb device in the computer just locks up and the only way to do any thing is to switch off

Could well be a PSU overloading or failing. How old is the PC?
