My toshiba M100 intermittently produces a black screen at boot up. However, the icons and windows logo can be seen with a torch. Shutting down and rebooting with a linux mint live disk gives me a display and a menu. If I choose boot from hard drive win 7 starts with display. How to prevent the black screen from occuring?

I would first try uninstalling and updating the windows 7 graphics driver.

Thank you Fruit Bat for a possible solution. I have tried this. The message was that I did have the latest driver.

Uninstall it - reboot the machine, let windows find new hardware and reinstall it.
